A broiler chicken, often simply referred to as a "broiler," is a type of chicken specifically bred and raised for meat production.
-
Our chickens roam freely within 10 x 20 foot mobile chicken tractors, which we move multiple times daily. This not only provides them with constant fresh pasture but also helps in protecting them from predators, ensuring their safety while they enjoy the outdoors.
The chicken litter also provides nitrogen fertilizer to our pastures.
-
Reduced Exposure to Antibiotics and Hormones: Organic chickens are raised without antibiotics or added hormones, which could potentially reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance in humans and eliminate concerns over hormone ingestion. This practice aligns with reducing the broader issue of antibiotic resistance, which is a significant public health concern.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Pastured or organic chickens often exhibit higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, especially when, as in our case, they are raised with access to pasture. This environment allows them to consume a diverse diet of insects, seeds, and grass. Omega-3 fatty acids are known to benefit heart health, reduce inflammation, and support brain function.
No Soy Organic Feed: Allergies: Soy is one of the top allergens. For people with soy allergies, even trace amounts can be problematic.
GMO Concerns: Much of the soy produced globally is genetically modified, and there's a segment of consumers who prefer non-GMO foods.
Nutritional Preferences: Some believe that soy-free diets for chickens could lead to different nutritional profiles in the meat, potentially with less phytic acid (which can bind minerals) or different fatty acid profiles.
-
Raising chickens on pasture means we must carefully monitor the weather conditions. Extreme temperatures, whether too hot or too cold, can stress the chickens, resulting in tougher meat. Consequently, our optimal growing seasons are from March 15th to May 15th and from August 15th to October 15th.
-
They grow much faster than traditional breeds. Typically, broilers reach market weight (about 4-5 pounds) in just 8 to 9 weeks.
